Conferred after ten years of service "and in
recognition of meritorious achievement in combat,
counter-infiltration operations and in the fight against
foreign aggression."
According to Ingraham (993) there were
three coinages of that medal, two of which were poswar
issue. The wartime issue had rough textured ribbon and was
usually serial numbered. The medal could also be conferred
to Chinese volunteers in the Korean war.

Obverse:(st and 2nd and 3nd type) a Korean
soldier advancing with a soviet moisin type rifle, with the
North Korean banner in background, (4rd type) as above, but
the rifle updated to a soviet AK-47.
Reverse: medal's name in Korean; early
issues are numbered
Ribbon: 34 mm, red with a narrow
white-blue-white central stripe (2/3 mm each), broad white
side stripes (5 mm) and blue edges (2/3 mm).
