This was the highest
award of the Republic until the Order of Kim Il Sung
was established. The gold medal accompanies the title
conferred to honor "heroic exploit in war". A recipient is
also awarded with the Order of the National Flag st
Class. A statue of the recipient is erected at his
birthplace. It is the Korean counterpart of the Soviet
Title of the Hero of the Soviet Union.
